Counselling and Early Intervention are synonymous when we supporting your child develop emotional and social skills, while providing parents with the support they need to cope with the challenges of raising a special needs child. With a focus on positive reinforcement and providing a safe and comfortable environment, counselling can help to create an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding.

Emotional Regulation

Emotional regulation is the process of recognizing, understanding, and managing a child’s emotions. It helps children to identify, express, and cope with their feelings. Techniques such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, and relaxation can be taught to help children learn to manage their emotions in a healthy way.

Anxiety

Common signs of anxiety in children include displaying fear of new situations, avoiding activities and/or people, having difficulty sleeping, and having physical reactions such as increased heart rate. By helping children learn to recognize and express their emotions in a healthy way, they can better manage their anxiety. It is important to create an environment where children feel safe and supported, by providing them with tools such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to help them regulate their emotions.

Social Skills

Teaching children social skills such as communication, cooperation and problem-solving can help them make friends and navigate social situations. It is important to discuss how to handle bullying situations, so children with developmental needs can recognize and respond in a safe and appropriate way. Our counselling sessions provide resources to help children learn how to stand up for themselves and others in the face of bullying.
